Kim Scott's historical novel That Deadman Dance has claimed the 2011 Miles Franklin Literary Award.
Set in the early 19th century the story explores the early contact between the Aboriginal Noongar people and the first European settlers.
"That Deadman Dance is alive in the spaces between these two worlds as they collide and collaborate," judges of the award commented.
This is the second time Kim Scott has won the Miles Franklin having tied with Thea Astley in 2000, which made him the first Aboriginal writer to win the prize.
